The Benchmark, created in partnership between Clarendon Homes and Landcom, won the GreenSmart Resource Efficiency category and was hailed as an “outstanding entry” by the judging panel.
In particular, the judges were impressed with the commitment of Clarendon Homes and Landcom to minimising waste from pre-construction planning to the “life cycle” materials used in construction.
Clarendon Homes’ NSW Marketing and Design Manager, Mr Tim Redway, said the award was just recognition for Clarendon and Landcom’s commitment to sustainable design and construction.
“We’re proud to partner with Landcom to develop sustainable homes such as the Benchmark that show that energy-efficient homes are affordable and within the grasp of all home buyers,” Mr Redway said.
One of three sustainability-driven designs at The Ponds estate, The Benchmark is a 6-star rated home that had been built to both preserve the environment and to lead to a reduced energy footprint over the home’s life cycle.
It includes a host of sustainable components ranging from energy-efficient lighting and construction materials, low-emissivity glass windows to keep the heat in in winter and cool the house in summer, additional insulation as well as water conservation measures. This is complemented by a floor plan that maximises ventilation flow.
Landcom’s Director, Sustainability and Policy, Mr Stephen Driscoll, said the Benchmark was a prime example of the benefits of developers and builders “going the extra mile” to deliver energy-efficient housing.
“It is particularly encouraging that by working with a volume builder such as Clarendon Homes, we have been able to take the lead in this field. I look forward to more builders embracing sustainable design and construction as we address the challenges of climate change.”
The Benchmark is on display at Pebble Crescent, The Ponds between 10am and 5pm daily.
